Face to Face Coach-Mentoring

Many of my clients like to meet me face-to-face for their coach-mentoring sessions, particularly at my home office in the beautiful New Forest on the UK's south coast, near Southampton, where the tranquil surroundings are really great for quiet in-depth conversations and for supporting their learning.
I’ll also meet clients face-to-face at other locations within an hour and a half's drive from my office, or in London provided that the chosen venue is private and has the ‘right vibes’. Choosing the wrong location can be very distracting and not very conducive to holding deep, honest and sometimes challenging discussions!
Coaching face-to-face is also an excellent opportunity to model and practice new behaviours (maybe for that all important interview or meeting), to rehearse new strategies (maybe for bringing a new team together, or preparing for some complex negotiation), and to explore new feelings and to talk about developing new habits in order to face a particular circumstance (dealing with a difficult colleague or staff member), or to deal with stress or aggravation.
So… meeting face-to-face has its benefits, especially if you require longer more intense coach-mentoring sessions.
The other interesting benefit clients report is that the journey to our meeting place, or to the New Forest, enables them to physically remove themselves to a neutral and undoubtedly more restful and peaceful place. This helps their self-reflection and therefore their learning, and puts a healthy distance between them and their current challenges. This in turn enables them to stand back and take a more strategic view, and frees up their intuitive inner selves to support better quality decision-making.
What seems to work wonderfully well is a combination of face-to-face sessions with some distance coaching; maybe ½ and ½, and this can be arranged with ease depending upon where the coachee lives and how willing they are to travel for a face-to-face coach-mentoring session.
